Keep North Platte and Lincoln County Beautiful (KNPLCB) attended the Keep America Beautiful National Conference in Washington, DC and came home with the Great American Cleanup Award. KNPLCB was selected as the winner from over 600 affiliates across the nation. The award is given to only one KAB Affiliate that has completed Great American Cleanup Events that can be used as a model throughout the affiliate network.
In 2016, throughout Lincoln County 1911 volunteers picked up approximately 7 tons of litter, put in 6779 hours of volunteer time and covered 2500 miles. “This award is due to individual county and community efforts”, Mona Anderson, Executive Director stated. “Winning could not be possible without the support of our volunteers and partners.” Volunteers participated in 5 structured cleanup days and rural and city road litter cleanups.
The Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup is the nation’s largest community improvement program, engaging more than 5 million volunteers and participants every year to create positive change and lasting impact in local communities. Entering its 18th year in 2016, the Great American Cleanup offers structured service projects – experiential environment education, organized volunteer events and employee engagement opportunities – in more than 20,000 communities across the country.
Additionally, Keep America Beautiful presented KNPLCB with its President’s Circle Award recognition. The President’s Circle Award recognizes exemplary performance by certified affiliates of the national nonprofit in creating clean, green and beautiful communities. “One of Keep America Beautiful’s most effective tools is the work of our grassroots network of affiliate organizations, which has an impact on millions of Americans each year,” said Keep America Beautiful COO Becky Lyons. “Our affiliates are providing real solutions that help create communities that are socially connected, environmentally healthy and economically sound.”
